Has anyone tried out the Yelp app yet? I know I'm a bit late to the party but it's par for the course for me. I recently started a Yelp account to see what all the commotion was. I have to say I'm slightly impressed because it's actually a social network within itself. You can add friends, leave reviews for businesses, and if you go to the talk section, there's always a lively conversation going on!

Is the Yelp app a directory of businesses or is it like a social network where you need to add a business name to see products and reviews? Am I right in saying Yelp is a search engine like Google?

Albert, you don't need to add a business name, although you can submit your own business or a business you'd like to review that isn't claimed yet. It is a search engine unto itself, and Yelp treats it that way from what I understand. It's all about reviewing your local businesses and getting recommendations from others. It's a vast network but it's all free for the end user.
